The Ultimate Drone Selection Guide: Simplified with AIM Robotics

When it comes to selecting the perfect drone, whether you're a hobbyist or a business professional, the options can feel overwhelming. But don't worry—this guide breaks down everything you need to know to help you choose the right drone based on your needs, budget, and experience level. Let's dive in!

Do You Need a License to Fly a Drone in Canada?

Before purchasing a drone, it's essential to understand Canadian drone regulations.

NO: Micro-Drones (under 250 grams)
If your drone weighs less than 250 grams, such as the DJI Mini 4 Pro, no license is required to fly. These drones are compact and designed for on-the-go convenience, offering great camera capabilities and flight performance.

However, certain operations such as flying near or over people, or flying in controlled airspace will require certification and/or approvals from NAV CANADA.

YES: Larger Drones (over 250 grams)
Drones that weigh more than 250 grams require a Basic or Advanced license to operate. You can sign up for FREE online prep courses through RPAS Centre to get started on your drone certification. Sign up here
